What a panel upgrade involves
We coordinate with ComEd where needed, upgrade your service entrance and meter if required, install a new panel with proper capacity (commonly 200 amps), label every circuit clearly, and pull the permit so the work is inspected. Most residential upgrades are completed in a single day with minimal disruption.
A quick look at what's inside your panel
Your panel, sometimes called the breaker box or load center, is where the power from the street splits out into the individual circuits that run your home. The two heavy service conductors feed the main breaker, usually 100 or 200 amps, which powers two bus bars; each branch breaker clips onto a bus and protects one circuit, tripping the moment that circuit tries to draw more current than its wire can safely carry. A clean, correctly loaded panel, with the neutral and ground properly separated and bonded and every circuit clearly labeled, is one of the quiet signs of a home that has been taken care of.
