To a curious toddler, an outlet is exactly the right height and exactly the right shape to poke something into. Every year in the United States, thousands of children are treated for outlet-related injuries, and the old plastic plug-in caps are a poor defense, they're a choking hazard themselves and kids learn to pull them out. Peak Property Electric installs tamper-resistant outlets across the North Shore, the real fix.
How tamper-resistant outlets work
A tamper-resistant receptacle has spring-loaded shutters behind the slots. They only open when equal pressure is applied to both sides at once, exactly what a plug does, and exactly what a single object like a hairpin or key cannot. There's nothing to install, remember, or lose, and the outlet looks and works normally for adults. Because they're so effective, they've been required by code in the living areas of new and renovated homes since 2008.
What we do

- Prioritize kids' rooms, playrooms, and living areas
- Add GFCI protection near water at the same time
- Replace any worn, loose, or damaged outlets while we're at it
- Advise on the safest setup for your home and its layout
